MAKE PEACE

Thursday, September 07, 2006

I firmly believe that, for a more peaceful world, more mutual understanding is needed. This can come only through communication. What a blessing computers are, and will be. I like H. G. Wells' "All the past is but the beginning of the beginning: all that the human mind has accomplished is but a dream before the awakening" I guess he was an optimist! Will we make the grade? Shoudn't we all give it our best shot? We and all of nature are in it together: we'll sink or swim!
An intimate understanding of our adversaries, has to preceed a better understanding of ourselves perhaps. A forgiveness of ourselves will have to preceed our forgiveness of others. Yes... even the Taliban. (spelling?) With affection, Brian

I write because I like to communicate on subjects of mutual interest. It is through learning other people's views on various topics that we can gain in knowledge, tolerance and perhaps even in wisdom. By reading what acclaimed authors have written, whatever their subject, we are able to further our education. However, by reading or listening to anyone's views on anything of any interest to us, we may be better able to play a useful part in society.
H.G. Wells wrote: -- " Civilisation is a race between education and catastrophe."
If we are to acheive a more tolerant and peaceful world for our children etc, surely we should perhaps start with ourselves, then seek to influence those around us, our communities, and our nation. It is not likely to come about while each of us is expecting it to depend on other people, or other nations, or even on God!
Jesus was telling us how we need to live, and was setting an example for us. Others throughout history have done likewise, but now that it is a much smaller world, and with amazing advances in technology, mankind's and the planet's survival is urgently dependent upon our heeding those words of wisdom. If we cannot extend love, we had better at least extend tolerance.
" He prayeth best who loveth best all creatures great and small " said the poet.
Au revoir.

It is mankind's laguage, sophisticated in comparison to that of the rest of the animal kingdom, that has elevated us to dominance. Our converting it to symbols (letters of the alphabet), has greatly aided us in learning our own or any other language. Thus we are able to exchange ideas with a huge variety of people, especially since the advent of computers and the internet.

Thinking in abstract.

Thank you ......... , Canada. To explain, ASNZ,(Astrological Society of New Zealand) has been run predominantly by Auckland where it was first brought into being. Members elsewhere in NZ, exist in virtual isolation except for the several tiny groups, of which there have been about six functioning in the past, but now perhaps 2 or 3. ASNZ filled an indispensable role, especially for the thinly scattered nonAucklanders. A second group started up in Auckland which catered only for the locals there. This was a real threat to ASNZ's continued existence, so steps were being taken to wind up this body in spite of its unnecessarily large reserve fund. Several of us disagreed with its intending closure, but the new president was standing very firm in her determination that it had to be wound up. It became a real battle unfortunately, and the main blame was and still seems to be, heaped on me: in truth because I refused to give in, and was prepared to appeal to the Registrar of Incorporated societies. This seemed to be taken, together with my audacity in opposing the president's decree, as an unforgivable misdemeanor, and her side of the story was, to some extent, taken on board by most of her Auckland acquaintances. I felt it necessary to book a plane journey there for a special general meeting, and found the atmoshere somewhat cool -- "enemy territory". My d of b. Masterton 1 - 0ct. 1922. Asc. mid-cancer. My 'scope shows a triangle of Quintiles and one of septiles. My sincere apologies for the long delay. Brian.

Safely back from enemy territory. ASNZ will continue with as yet no great change.
