I write because I like to communicate on subjects of mutual interest. It is through learning other people's views on various topics that we can gain in knowledge, tolerance and perhaps even in wisdom. By reading what acclaimed authors have written, whatever their subject, we are able to further our education. However, by reading or listening to anyone's views on anything of any interest to us, we may be better able to play a useful part in society.
H.G. Wells wrote: -- " Civilisation is a race between education and catastrophe."
If we are to acheive a more tolerant and peaceful world for our children etc, surely we should perhaps start with ourselves, then seek to influence those around us, our communities, and our nation. It is not likely to come about while each of us is expecting it to depend on other people, or other nations, or even on God!
Jesus was telling us how we need to live, and was setting an example for us. Others throughout history have done likewise, but now that it is a much smaller world, and with amazing advances in technology, mankind's and the planet's survival is urgently dependent upon our heeding those words of wisdom. If we cannot extend love, we had better at least extend tolerance.
" He prayeth best who loveth best all creatures great and small " said the poet.
Au revoir.
